PEF/Encon Scholarship - Fall 2004

The scholarship award is a one time payment of $500. A "student" is defined as a dependent child, stepchild, or ward of a member of Division 169, PEF/Encon, on the date of the drawing. Students are eligible for this scholarship only if they are enrolled in a full-time degree program (12+ credit hours or equivalent) during the Fall 2004 academic year. Proof of enrollment will be requested from the winner. The award will be given to the student in the student’s name. Applications are available at and must be received by October 8th. See any PEF steward for more information (Click Here for Further Info & Application).

Anti Outsourcing Committee

Every day more jobs that had been done by PEF members are contracted out. To fight back against this loss of jobs PEF/encon has formed an Anti Outsourcing Committee to inform ourselves about the problem and work on strategies to stop it. The committee will report on their work so far and discuss how our membership can help and improve our effort.

Composting

The Department is still not composting. We have been told that there are no facilities in the area to take the building’s waste. We remain committed to working to solve this problem, let us know your ideas.

Water Street Parking

In spite of improvements to the Water Street walkway near the north end of the lot, problems remain. An PEF member’s car was stolen from the lot during August and a member was struck by a vehicle while crossing Water Street (fortunately not injured). Please report all incidents to the State Police (use call boxes provided), DEC management and any PEF shop steward.

From PEF Information Line for Monday September 20, 2004

"PEF 2003-7 Contract ratified. With ratification of the contract, members should receive their bonuses and raises in approximately six weeks."

Parking

DEC management has refused to provide updated parking lists to PEF for 625 Broadway for several months. With the threat looming of another tenant taking DEC space on the 8th floor at 625 Broadway, the fear is that spaces are being stockpiled to be given to the new tenant. Members have told us that no one has been offered garage parking in spite of the fact that individuals have left the DEC, to retire and/or take other employment.

September 23 Labor - Management Meeting

The agenda proposed by PEF for the quarterly Labor - Management meeting is posted (Click Here to View It).
