Water Street Parking Lot Crime Spree

More than 30 days have passed since seven cars, while parked in the OGS Water Street Parking lot, were broken into and personal property stolen. This incident affected PEF, CSEA and M/C staff and ocurred during normal work hours. So far OGS has refused to reimburse for the damages incurred, even though it appears that during the time of the car break-ins the lot was left unattended by OGS. Certainly you have noticed the patrolling OGS vehicle that is now circling the Water Street lot - isn't that an admission that security was inadequate before? DEC management has been sympathetic but OGS has denied responsibility. The victims remain unreimbursed for damages yet continue to pay the State for parking in a lot where their property is not secure. PEF/encon has filed a class action grievance on behalf of the affected PEF members and continues to work on making suggestions to DEC management on how to make our pedestrian corridor and parking lots safer.
